We’ve been lucky enough to travel all over the world with Sand Dollar Swim, from Dubai to Australia and Italy. Travelling is a great experience but there’s still so much we’d like to see and do. We’d like to see more of the world so we’ve put together our bucket list of holiday experiences!
1. Go on safari.
We’re sure almost everyone would agree that going on safari in Africa deserves a place on the holiday experiences bucket list. Cape Town is one of the go-to destinations for going on safari and it sounds wonderful: stay in the heart of Cape Town in a safari lodge and travel out to the Cape Peninsula to see penguins or the Sabi Sands to see a leopard in the flesh. There are rhinos and cheetahs too, as well as all kinds of other animals you would never normally get to see outside of the zoo. For adults and kids alike, a safari is a truly magical experience.
2. See the Northern Lights from an igloo in Iceland.
Iceland is absolutely gorgeous and while we’ve never been, it’s right up near the top of our bucket list because we’ve all seen pictures of the colour-streaked sky when the Northern Lights come out. Iceland is a bustling country full of beauty and culture, with geysers and lunar landscapes that need to be seen to be believed. Our absolute biggest want is to stay in a heated glass igloo and watch the Northern Lights from our bed. There has to be little more beautiful than the Aurora Borealis directly over your head!
3. Meet the penguin in the Antarctic.
Yes, it’s possible! There’s an Emperor penguin rookery in the Antarctic that can be visited, full of thousands of penguins in their natural habitat. It’s all very Happy Feet and very, very amazing! Unsurprisingly, the Antarctic isn’t that easy to get to: you fly by ski aircraft to the rookery on the remote south coast of the Weddell Sea. The ice cliffs and icebergs are truly stunning and are really like something out of a film!
If you’re adventurous, you can camp on-site and explore the wildlife. This is definitely not a trip for a family as the conditions are pretty tough. If you’re up for it, you have the option to camp amongst the penguins in their natural habitat in a beautiful icy wonderland.
Sounds amazing!
4. Live like the rich and famous in Monte Carlo.
Wedged between the Alps and French medieval villages, Monte Carlo is a piece of history. It’s also one of the wealthiest and most glamorous places in the world. There’s almost always a celebrity or three wandering around.
Known for its casinos and how amazingly grand everything is, Monte Carlo is a place to go to feel like a superstar for a few days. Slip into your most glamorous dress, sip expensive champagne, and head out to an opera for the night—where you might just end up sitting next to someone like George Clooney!
5. Go scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef.
There’s little quite as magical as going scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef. Like the Northern Lights, the Great Barrier Reef has a magic to it that can’t truly be captured on camera. The Great Barrier Reef is the oldest and biggest coral reef in the world and it is home to hundreds of species of fish and marine life. Words can’t do the Great Barrier Reef justice!
