If you’re not fortunate enough to live somewhere tropical, chances are you’ve been dealing with the wet and the cold for the last few weeks. The weather is getting frightful and hibernating might not seem like a bad idea. Maybe you don’t even remember what the sun looks like!
If, like us, you’re lucky enough to be heading off on a wintry pick-me-up to somewhere nice and hot, you’ll need to pack your bags and be prepared for the sunshine. We’ve picked our ten essential items to bring with you on you sun holiday.
1. Sun cream/sunblock.
If you’ve gotten used to the cold and your skin is pale again, you’ve probably forgotten what heat feels like—and worse of all, how bad a sunburn feels. While you might be tempted to skimp on the sun cream, you should bring a couple of bottles with a minimum SPF of 15. Make sure to slather it on, even if your little ones complain like crazy. Even if it doesn’t feel that warm, it’s best to be safe.
2. Beach bag.
Your beach bag will be your lifesaver and it’s where you’ll keep all your essentials. Keep it stocked full of supplies: sun cream, spare clothes, towels, water, some treats, your entertainment for the day, and your technology. It’s always best to keep your phones, etc., in one place where someone can keep an eye on them.
3. A fly net if you’ve got a little one who still uses a buggy.
If you’re going somewhere properly tropical, a fly net is so important to keeping your little one safe from any bugs or insects that might try and take a bite. Lightweight and foldable, a fly net is easy to carry around and barely weighs a thing. It’ll attach onto most buggies, prams, carry cots, or a car seat so your little one will be safe from bites!
4. UV swimwear for the little and large ones in the family.
UV swimwear is vital to keeping your family safe from the sun. Our children’s range comes with SPF 50. Our long sleeves and hats are perfect for protecting them from the sun’s harmful rays and our designs are cute and playful so your kids will be more than happy to try them on!
Just don’t forget to look out for Mum and Dad too and stock up on UV swimwear for you too!
5. Beach hats.
A floppy hat or cap should be a staple for the beach—especially if Dad is starting to lose his hair! Ears and the top of heads are particularly susceptible to burning and often get skipped in the sun cream routine, so make sure to keep them covered.
6. Moisturiser.
The key to good skin is to moisturise! Hot, dry air on holidays will dry your skin out. Bring a good moisturiser with you. Pay close attention to the sky around your nose and your lips as they can be hit hard by dry weather!
7. Your iPod.
For relaxing and listening to some great music at the beach, of course.
8. A beach read.
Again, this one is mostly for entertainment purposes! Whether you’re into cheesy romance novels or you like something more thrilling from John Grisham, for example, it’s always good to bring a novel or two along to read as you lay by the beach or pool.
9. Flip flops.
Of course! There’s nothing worse than getting sand in your shoes, which is why flip flops are a staple. They’re also good for walking around communal showers and pool areas. You definitely don’t want to bring a verruca home with you!
10. Toiletries.
If you’re staying in a hotel, it’s bound to be stocked with all kinds of toiletries in mini bottles, but if you’re renting for the duration, it’s best to be prepared and bring along your favourite toiletries in case anything is missing!
